“ Loukia Alavanou: What intrigued me in this play, what I tried to somehow put into the film, is how this hero keeps shifting. I see him as brave and at times quite full of rage towards his sons, so he becomes a young ruler again; at other times, he is vulnerable; and towards the end, he is heroic, walking bravely towards his death. This shift points to the fact that there are many different sides to him. For me, that was very important. That’s why I somehow see certain characters as ‘merged’. For instance, in my perception, his son Polynices at times identifies with young Oedipus. And what I did is that, when at some point Polynices is singing to his father, it’s as if young Oedipus is speaking. The Messenger I use at the end, a young, handsome man, who walks bravely and topless, he is young Oedipus too. So, this was something that really interested me. I couldn’t crystallize him in just one figure. Oedipus was not just vulnerable or just brave. He encompasses several different and extreme character traits, which can be embodied in the different characters.
   Darian Leader: So several of the characters that we meet in the film are all, in a sense, different versions of Oedipus. ”
