Oedipus, in older age, leaves Thebes as an exile accompanied by Antigone, who is both his daughter and sister. They seek refuge in Colonus of Athens. What if the tragic hero of Sophocles’ play was a Romani nomad residing in today’s post- industrial outskirts of western Athens? This ‘docufictional’ VR film was cast with Romani amateurs who live at the ghettoized toxic wastelands of Thriasian Plain, where Sophocles’ wandering hero is meant to have passed from. The tragedian’s almost 2500-year-old drama is transposed into the present and is narrated through a combination of docuficion, video clips, farce, and VR technology.

Inside the neoclassical architecture of the Greek pavilion, Alavanou built four hemispherical domes of various sizes, in which she has placed fisteen posture chairs based on the designs of the Greek utopian architect Takis Zenetos, who died in 1970.
